Snapchat baby

As I mentioned in my post last week, although not without its challenges, I actually enjoyed the newborn phase. After publishing that post, Hannah and I spent some time reminiscing about what our lives were like while Lydia was still in what we called the “accessory phase” (aka the first few months when she slept just as well in her car seat as anywhere else, and we basically continued our normal life—just with the addition of a baby-in-a-car-seat accessory). During this phase, we took Lydia on dates, to events, and to game nights at friends’ houses. For the most part, she slept through all of it like a champ.

Since Hannah is a photographer, and since Lydia was so sleepy all the time, we flirted on and off with the idea of putting together one of those Pinterest-worthy newborn photo shoots where the naked baby is perfectly posed and looking “naturally” serene. I remember looking at some potential themes and poses when we eventually came across this article that convinced us that maybe doing something elaborate wasn’t going to work out. (As a side note, if you aren’t at least chuckling by the time you reach picture number 9 in that article then you must have no sense of humor.)

We decided to keep the more professional newborn pictures of Lydia pretty simple, but that didn’t deter me from having a little fun of my own. A string of Snapchat pictures started one night as Lydia was “exercising her vocals,” and I sent this photo to Hannah.

We both thought the photo was hilarious, and before long it became my fatherly duty to utilize Snapchat and emojis for some of our own “posed” newborn pictures. I thought it might be fun to share them (even though I’m sure grown-up Lydia will think this is the most embarrassing thing ever).

If this next one doesn’t make sense, think Disney’s Tarzan.

Snapchat’s features have come a long way since I took these pictures just over a year ago, so I’m already excited about how much fun I’ll have with our next baby!

Silver Cross Wave

When we finished setting up the Silver Cross Wave, my husband smiled, looked at me and said, “Our baby better not get used to this level of comfort and style because we don’t drive a Rolls.” The Wave is the luxury ride of the stroller set. It comes with a higher price tag, but my […]

The birthday date tradition
The birthday date tradition

Our oldest turned 7 on January 1. I can hardly believe that she is 7. I’m pretty sure I’ve said that every year since she turned 1. Not that I couldn’t believe that she was 7. I didn’t say that every year. That wouldn’t have made any sense. But I’m pretty sure I said—I can’t […]
